Using the digital zoom option on my low-mega-pixel camera, I am interested in isolating the object from its surroundings, removing the visual clues as to its original purpose and reducing it to shape, line, form and pattern. This is further accentuated as the image is taken through five photographic processes, from digital file through to large hand-printed colour photograph. A process that evolved out of need - that is not having the proper equipment to create digital images in the computer – resulting in exaggerated grain on top of extreme pixelation. I am interested in how far I can push this low-tech embrace of the pixel and still maintain the feeling of the original hand-worked object. I am interested in the tension between ‘old’ technology, ‘new’ technology and the handmade.
